A Michelin Key for the Second Year Running

We are delighted and deeply proud to share that Islington has once again been awarded a Michelin Key in the 2026 Michelin Guide, our second year in a row.

What is a Michelin Key?

Most people know the Michelin Star as the world’s most respected honour for restaurants. The Michelin Key is its equivalent for hotels. Michelin’s inspectors travel anonymously and judge each hotel on five criteria: excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for money, and contribution to the local area. One Key recognises “a very special stay”, Two Keys “an exceptional stay” and Three Keys “an extraordinary stay”.

A growing honour for Tasmania

Michelin Keys first came to Australia in October 2025, when Islington was one of 35 hotels in the country to receive the distinction. This year the list has grown to 54 hotels nationwide, and we are proud to stand alongside some of Tasmania’s finest stays once again.
