It’s gettin’ hot in here!

Hobart’s CBD is heating up for Summer – and no more so than at the newly refurbished old Mercury building, right in the centre of town. The long awaited opening of Franklin, along with it’s little sister Betsey and Pigeon Hole Bakers means, if you haven’t visited Hobart for a while, it’s time you come see what’s going on!

Adding to this tempting little trio is the newly opened Three Japanese in Elizabeth Street. Three Japanese foodies, including a very talented chef, bring you izakaya-style food with a nice little selection of sake and wine. If you like your Japanese crispy, you’ll love their chicken skin on skewers and deep fried chicken cartilage! However, if you’re more partial to the juicier cuts, anything from their grill is perfectly seasoned. Wednesday is sashimi day and not only is the catch fresh and beautifully sliced, it’s all about the accompaniments.

Prefer your food slightly more standard? Then a burger, down a laneway, enjoyed whilst perched on a milk crate – at The Standard, might be more for you! The team behind Property of pilgrim in Liverpool Street (next door) are rapidly developing a cult following for their Standard, Double Standard or Chicken burgers. But these ain’t just any burgers! The bun is just the right size and crumb and the patty has the ultimate fat to meat ratio – the perfect hangover cure! Or a splendid start to a night which will probably lead to one!

If all of this is too hot for you…cool down with Vita: Nature + Culture, a frozen yoghurt shop with a difference. The team behind Ethos in Elizabeth Street (next door) bring you all locally made in-house yoghurt with self-serve crunchy bits, in a minimal but enticing space. FroYo? Hell no!
