Centenary of Hobart’s State Cinema, October 2-6

Our affectionately known cinema ‘The State’ has been entertaining audiences for a century this October. Whilst Pinot may now be spilled, instead of Jaffas rolled down the aisle, this rare example of a purpose-built moving picture house is a historical and cultural icon. In celebration, five days of special events and screenings will take place, kicking off with an exclusive red carpet event on Wednesday 2nd October with live music, Tasmanian produce and, of course, film. Other highlights include a rooftop feast and a Silent Film Festival, with acclaimed Austrian composer and pianist Gerhard Gruber performing live accompaniment to a program of classic silent films. For more information visit www.statecinema.com.au
